Our History
1955
In 1955, Robert-Jean de Vogüé, then President of Moët & Chandon, started to look beyond his native Champagne for regions capable of producing top-quality sparkling wines. A man of vision, he foresaw a time when the Champagne appellation would no longer be able to meet the growing demand for such wines.

1970
Founded in 1970 by three brothers – David, Mark and Giles Hohnen – Cape Mentelle was one of the first estates to be established on the eponymous Cape, just a few miles from the town of Margaret River.

Founded in 1977, Newton Vineyard is one of the most iconic estates in California’s Napa Valley. The famous American critic Robert Parker devoted an article to it in his reference work The World’s Greatest Wine Estates.

1985
Established in 1985, Cloudy Bay was one of the first five wine makers to venture into Marlborough, New Zealand. At the time, it was almost an unimaginable place to set-up a vineyard. But Cloudy Bay’s founder - David Hohnen - was convinced of its potential to produce great wine and invested in the best land of the region.

1998
Firmly rooted into Spanish history and terroir, Bodega Numanthia is the birthplace of powerful and intense wines, iconic incarnations of the prestigious Designation of Origin Toro. Situated in the northwest Spain, on clay plateaus and slopes, these old vineyards produce intense and powerful vintages year after year.

1999 saw the creation of Terrazas de los Andes and a partnership with leading Bordeaux Château Cheval Blanc under the name Cheval des Andes.

With such substantial interests in world-class wines, the company decided to bring them all under one roof in 2003 with the founding of ESTATES & WINES, Moët Hennessy’s dedicated wine division.

Moët Hennessy Wine Estates has unveiled the first vintage of Ao Yun, the new Chinese wine produced in the foothills of the Himalayas, giving the division its current shape.

Our main objectives include maximising efficiency of water usage, protecting the land from erosion, minimizing carbon footprint from CO2 production, and improving waste reduction and recycling efficiency.
We seek to improve our engagement year on year by comparing our methods to international best practices and promoting an understanding of environmental issues.
