Established in 1985, Cloudy Bay was one of the first five wineries to venture into Marlborough. Since then, Marlborough has risen to become New Zealand’s leading wine region. Our pioneer and visionary spirit allowed us to secure vineyards on some of the most exceptional terroir within the Marlborough region and, lately, in Central Otago.

The Marlborough region offers an amazing diversity of terroirs, all driven by maritime conditions. Grapes from the Northern Wairau Valley bring the punch and the intense flavours, while the fruits from the Southern Valley ensure elegance and refinement. A rich palette of terroirs that provides nuances of aroma and flavours, bringing complexity to the wines. On the other hand, the Central Otago region has been identified as unsuitable for grape growing up to the mid 1980's. As the world’s most southern wine site, this is a challenging region, driven by extreme conditions, where the site selection is critical.
